Finished Avalon
So, was it a good film?
Beats me.
But then it was by Mamoru Oshii of ‘Ghost in the Shell’ fame, so it is unsuprising that it fails to make a huge amount of sense of the first viewing. With GitS I found that by the third viewing I thing I came reasonable close to getting it. Kinda. Sorta.
The question of all of this is does it mean anything? Or is Oshii just playing some sort of Surrealist mind trip, where there is no concrete meaning but the depth of symbolism is such that it can mean anything. Alice in Wonderland, guilty as charged.
Who knows. I’ll reserve judgment ‘til I watch it again.
